The 2020 Census led to redistricting for the Illinois 9th Congressional District which includes parts of McHenry County (see maps below – all of Algonquin Township and only part of Algonquin Township Precinct 15). Representative Jan Schakowsky, who served District 9 in Congress since 1999, announced that she will not seek reelection in 2026. As of today 16 Democrats have declared themselves as candidates. Only 2 do not have a website up yet. Here is the list. It is not uncommon for candidates to withdraw due to personal reasons, scrutiny, challenges, or they determine that there is no viable path to victory.
