Senator John McCain died Saturday after a battle with brain cancer. There is no secret that he had a contentious relationship with Trump. Today the White House has the flag back at full-staff.
A fiery friend messaged me: The Village of Huntley is not flying the flag at half-staff. This was confirmed a little after 2pm on August 27, 2018.
I called the American Legion in Huntley. Ted said the flag should be at half-staff.
I called the Village of Huntley. Rita said that half-staff orders are received via email from the Governor’s office and the Village had not received such an email. She also said she would look into the issue.
Meanwhile, the Village of Lake in the Hills posted on their Facebook page at 11:09 a.m. on August 27, 2018 that they are flying the flag at half-staff until September 2, 2018 in honor of Senator McCain.
Also meanwhile, Ohio Governor Kasich and New York Governor Cuomo both ordered flags on all state government buildings to be flown at half-staff.
***UPDATE***
The White House has bowed to public outcry. The flag is now at half-staff.
Also, I just received a phone call from Rita. Huntley will not be lowering the flag to half-staff without an order from Governor Rauner. Mayor Charles Sass was also called to weigh in on this decision but it was not his exclusively. This is long held Village of Huntley policy. It was acknowledged that surrounding suburbs have opted to make the decision lower the flag to half-staff on their own accord. Huntley will not.
If you would like to reach out to the Village of Huntley I have provided the following for your convenience.
